I am continuing work on another self-portrait that I began before the Christmas break, but perhaps the background of this piece will motivate me to start a still life soon. This is 28" x 22", colored pencil on sanded paper.

I LOVE how you did the plate in the background. Wow. Your backgrounds are soooooo cool. I almost forgot this is a coloured pencil piece. My eyes keeps saying photograph, even if my brains says "Look silly, it is a WIP of a coloured pencil piece".

Thank you so much Ana! The plate is actually quite grainy and fuzzy if you see it close up - I'm trying to keep the background dim to not compete with the subject, yet still realistic. We'll see what happens!

I think this portrait is a huge step forward for you, Holly. The face has a wonderful, pensive expression and is very engaging for the viewer. Can't wait to see it continue.

Looks beautiful so far. How is the Fisher paper working out for you, Holly? Do you like it more than the Rtistx boards? I purchased a huge role of Fisher and it is still sitting in a corner.

Chantell - I like both supports: I like the Fisher for colored pencil because it is easy to create a smooth look without paper showing through, but I still like to use cp with either solvent or Neocolor watersoluble pastels on the Rtistx. I'm going to use UART with pastels next.
