Self Expression

I recently completed another self-portrait in oil, shown here. I find it very convenient to use myself for a subject not only because I can take unlimited photographs, but also because I can use a mirror to check skin tones and see what the camera missed.

For this piece, I set up a camera using the timer to take several photos of myself set against a mostly white background. I wanted to create a feeling of being overwhelmed or desiring to hide in one's surroundings, and decided to call the final piece "Eclipse".

For a second I thought I could see the light and shadows from window blinds on the wall behind you and now i can't tell if I imagined them or not!

A truly fabulous piece Holly! As a portrait, the details are fantastic, there is tremendous use of colour and yes, definitely a 'mood' piece - very captivating!! Congrats - well done!!!

Very interesting piece with your image and all the shades of white, Holly. The intensity of your gaze is incredible. The detailing in the face is lovely - I really like the nose, for instance. It's funny, because this piece is so different in reality from how I pictured it when you described it to me. You know what I mean, right? Can't wait to see your colored pencil sp.
